Mansplaining, Music, and Making Brands Sound Good

Sometimes the best ads come from not taking things too seriously.

We recently had the chance to work on a new spot for OGX that does exactly that, featuring Josh Peck delivering an overconfident, tongue‑in‑cheek breakdown of hair care. It’s playful, self‑aware, and very much in on the joke, which made it a perfect fit for the music.

The campaign centers on Josh Peck enthusiastically mansplaining hair care to camera, leaning into humor to flip a familiar trope on its head. The result is a spot that feels light, modern, and genuinely entertaining, while still keeping OGX front and center as the real expert in the room.

To match that energy, the spot features NOBODY’S PERFECT by pink slip, a track that brings just the right mix of attitude and charm. The song reinforces the humor of the concept while keeping things polished and confident, helping the spot land without trying too hard.

This project came together in collaboration with the hair experts at Kenvue and our longtime partners at Havas NYC. From concept through final cut, the creative leaned into personality, timing, and tone, all areas where music plays a critical role in shaping how a spot feels.

At SoStereo, our goal is always to make sure the music doesn’t just sit under the visuals, but actively elevates them. In this case, the track helps sell the joke, set the pace, and give the ad its personality.

The campaign was also featured in People, with a behind‑the‑scenes look at how the spot came together and the thinking behind the creative.
