Behind The Stereo with Cienfue

Hi, I’m Cienfue, and this is Behind The Stereo.

Who or what is your biggest inspiration?

For me, I would have to say nature a lot growing up, I was very inspired by the exuberant tropical nature in Panamá, and as an adult also by nature in the form of the ocean and being a surfer.

What do you think is the best thing about being a Latin American artist?

We used to get invited to all of these “15 años”, the 15th, sweet 16 parties, the latino version over here, and  we get to listen an eclectic mix by de DJ’s would will be like schizophrenic because it would go from like salsa, Willie Colon, Fania All Stars, and next song would be like The Rolling Stones, “Start Me Up” or some other classic rock tune. Had access to all of these different musical universes and up to this day when I’m making a song, I have all of these different sounds in my head from back in the day when I used to go.

How did you first get into music, and what inspired you to become an independent artist?

For me, MTV was a huge influence, growing up and always wanted to be like the videos I was watching on it, but always wanted to bring something special from my own experience to what I was going to create.

Top 3 of favorite places to visit in Panama.

Anton’s Valley, it’s high up in the mountains. It’s a volcanic crater that used to be a giant volcanic crater. Now it’s a town, and I would like to add “Casco Viejo”, which is the old Spanish Colonial quarter and it has amazing views of the city. And go to visit the Panama Canal. It’s amazing to watch those ships going through and the engineering marvel it is operating to this day.

If you were not a singer, what would you be?

Miserable.

One of your songs is called ‘La Isla del Diablo’ (The Devil’s Island). If you had to choose among these 3 Devil’s Islands, which one would you go to? 1. An island full of poisonous snakes 2. An island full of lions 3. An island full of erupting volcanoes.

From those 3 choices, I would say lions, why not? Lions are cool, snakes are a pain in the ass and volcanoes are fatal. So, the best chances of survival are lions.

What is your favorite part of being a SoStereo artist?

Is having my catalog with this amazing team that is always looking out for my music, and has got me amazing placements with US brands like Taco Bell, like Amazon, like Target.
